“I am hungry for more goals after scoring my first for Liverpool.”

The Norway international met Yana Daniels’ precise cross to send a powerful header into the back of the net, earning Matt Beard’s side a share of the spoils in the Barclays Women’s Super League.

It was a goal that meant a lot to the No.10 and her family, after a disrupted start to the season due to a facial injury on international duty that forced her first few games to be played with a protective mask.

Now free of the mask, Roman Haug is hoping to push on from her first goal for the club and help Liverpool continue their encouraging start to 2023-24.

“It was a really great feeling for me to see the ball go in the back of the net,” she told Liverpoolfc.com. “It was a really nice cross from Yana, how I like it, and I had a few chances in the game before it and in the previous game, so it was just nice to see it finally go in.

“I spoke to my family after the game back in Norway. They were so happy when they saw me score and it made me happy too. It was a really nice moment and hopefully there is more to come.”

The forward has made a nice habit of scoring headed goals in her career so far and is confident she can capitalise on the quality within the squad by adding to that collection in a red shirt.

“I like to head it so when a cross comes in as good as that was from Yana then it suits me well,” continued Roman Haug.

“We have a lot of quality in this really good squad. We just have to keep working hard and keep going and hopefully there are more goals to come.”

The 24-year-old was also keen to highlight the support she has received from her teammates, Beard and his staff, who were all delighted to see her get off the mark.

“It really has meant a lot to me,” she said. “This is a great group and the girls are amazing so it was a really fun experience to share it with them.

“I’m also really grateful for the support the manager has given me, it’s great working here under Matt.

“It was not really the start that I wanted here [picking up the facial injury] and of course you never want to pick up an injury like that, but I’m happy to be back now and contribute.

“It wasn’t ideal wearing that mask but I’m glad I’m done with that now and luckily for me it wasn’t that long I had to wear it for.”

On Saturday the Reds travel to the capital again as they face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, with kick-off set for 1.30pm GMT and the game live on the BBC.

Emma Hayes’ reigning WSL champions are sitting top of the table with five wins out of six and they played out a 2-2 draw with Real Madrid in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

The Reds are fifth, just two points off second place, and Roman Haug insists the challenge of facing the Londoners is a task the team are looking forward to.

“Tottenham was a tough game away from home, but it was an important point for us to take,” she added. “Of course, we wanted to get the three points but to come back like we did, it was good to be able to come back and take a point home.

“It’s been a good start to the season. We work every day to improve and to get as many points as we can, so we will keep working hard.

“We have done well so far this season and we are really looking forward to this game at Chelsea. It will be a nice occasion to play at Stamford Bridge and hopefully we can do well on Saturday and continue our good start to the season.”

Roman Haug also paid tribute to the team’s loyal supporters, who once again will be travelling to Stamford Bridge in their droves, courtesy of free coach travel from LFC’s official travel partner Expedia.

“The fans are absolutely amazing!” she said. “It’s incredible the support we get, and we all really appreciate every single one of them. They keep us going forward.

“I’ve heard them singing my name and it’s a really nice feeling.”
