In his ten appearances for Hull City since he joined the Tigers on loan, Liverpool midfielder Tyler Morton has done enough to earn a call up to the England U21 side.

With the Young Lions set to take on Northern Ireland at Goodison Park on Tuesday, it’s something of a brief homecoming for Morton as he returns both to his home city and the club he started at as a child.

“I played for Everton when I was younger, when I was a kid,” Morton said ahead of the match. “I really enjoyed my time to be honest, even though I’m a Red.

“So yeah, I played for Everton when I was younger. I think I was four or five until about seven. It was very young but I still remember it.

“I’m looking forward to [playing at Goodison]. I’m not a bitter person like a lot of them. I’m excited, really excited.

“Finch Farm is a good training facility and brings back memories as well from when I was younger. It’s lovely and I get to see people that I know because I know a few of the Everton lads. It’s brilliant for me.”

Morton saw his first minutes with the England when he came on as a substitute against Serbia on Saturday and he will again be expected to at least see action off the bench against Northern Ireland, and he’ll have plenty of friends and family in the stands cheering for him when he does.

“It’s a really proud moment, not only for me but for my family at home,” he added. “I’m loving every minute.
