As Liverpool begin preparations for the Europa League after a 1-1 draw with Manchester City, the Reds will now turn their attention to LASK. Here’s your round-up of the latest Liverpool news.
As Manchester City looks to win its fourth title in a row, Bernardo Silva stated his belief that Liverpool are back in contention this season. Speaking after the 1-1 draw at the Etihad Stadium, as quoted by the Mirror, he said: “We know that no one has ever won four in a row and we are fighting for the fourth, knowing that the teams we are playing against this season have improved a lot from last season,
“Liverpool are back, Tottenham has started the season really well and Arsenal again. It’s going to be a very tough job, but we definitely want to create history and win four in a row which no one has ever done.”
The game was much closer than last time around when Manchester City defeated Jürgen Klopp’s side 4-1 back in April, with plenty of positives to take from the point gained. And while Liverpool didn’t need to be told by a player from their biggest competitive rival of the Klopp era, it is still reassuring to hear after the poor standard of the campaign last season.
Robbie Fowler isn’t sure Darwin Núñez can become the ‘finished article’
Liverpool legend striker Robbie Fowler isn’t fully convinced about Darwin Núñez. In a column for the Mirror, he wrote: “How long do you give him? He arrived at Anfield almost 18 months ago now, and yet we are still talking about this potential, this ‘exciting rawness’. But you can’t go through your entire career being raw, can you?”
He also drew a comparison to the respective ages of Erling Haaland and Núñez, making the point that it is the Norwegian who should be given more leeway for being ‘raw’. He added: “Can you tell me what the difference in age between the two is? Let me tell you. Haaland is a year younger than the Reds forward. So if anyone should be given leeway for being raw, it is him.
“I do hope that Klopp will convert the rawness of Nunez into something special that allows Liverpool to win the title, as Gary Neville suggested. But I’m not yet convinced it will happen.”
