The best goal I’ve ever scored in my life, according to Alexis Mac Allister

Alexis Mac Allister says his first Liverpool goal was the best he has scored in his career, as the Reds produced a thrilling fightback to beat Fulham 4-3 in the Premier League on Sunday.

The midfielder’s superb 27-yard strike had Anfield on its feet in the first half, although Jürgen Klopp’s side needed late goals from Wataru Endo and Trent Alexander-Arnold to secure an epic victory.

Afterwards, a smiling Mac Allister spoke to liverpoolfc.com about his maiden Reds effort.

“I had a nice one against Leicester [for Brighton] but it was disallowed,” he said. “So I think it was the best goal I scored in my life.

“Not a bad start to my career there in Liverpool as a goalscorer!”

He continued: “As soon as I hit it, I knew that it was going to be a goal. [It was a] very nice goal, but as I always say, when I play as a No.6 I am not very worried about goals and assists [because] I have other work to do – but it’s always nice to score!”

Liverpool had led twice in the first half against Marco Silva’s side, but looked to be heading for defeat when substitute Bobby De Cordova-Reid gave the Cottagers an 80th-minute lead.

But Endo, brought off the bench late on, levelled with a superb strike three minutes from the end, before Alexander-Arnold produced a terrific finish to seal the points less than two minutes later.

“I think Endo changed the game, definitely,” said Mac Allister. “Because of the goal, and because of how he helped the team to have the right balance as well.

“Maybe when Jürgen took me off, the team was very offensive, and we needed a player like Endo.

“I’m very happy for him. He’s a really nice guy and he deserves it.”

On Alexander-Arnold, who struck the winner and had earlier helped force the opening goal with a sublime free-kick which found its way into the net via the back of Fulham goalkeeper Bernd Leno, Mac Allister was equally effusive.

“It looks very easy for him!” he said. “He can strike the ball very easily. You can see that in all the goals he scores.

“He’s a very important player for us, for the club, for the fans, and we are very happy for him as well.”

Victory over Fulham means Liverpool start a packed December schedule in perfect fashion, with testing trips to Sheffield United and Crystal Palace to come next week.

“We know that December and January are two very important months to see where we are at,” Mac Allister added. “We want to fight, we want to win every game, and that’s what we are going to try.”
