Micah Richards claims to be astounded by how quick a single Liverpool player is after witnessing him play against Arsenal.

Micah Richards has admitted that he never quite realised just how fast Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold was after seeing him yesterday.

Alexander-Arnold had another good game for the Reds at Anfield. The England man laid on an assist for Mo Salah again with a fine pass and was involved in a lot of Liverpool’s best bits.

Jurgen Klopp saw Trent then miss a golden chance to win the game near the end. The defender streaked forward only to fire his shot against the crossbar.

However, while the miss was big in the context of the game, Match of the Day pundit Richards noted just how fast Trent was in the build up to the chance.

Speaking about the England right-back on MOTD last night, Richards was lauding his performance and passing. But he also picked up on his speed, noting that Trent was so much faster than he thought.

“This is what I like. At the end, he could have won it. I didn’t know he was this quick to be honest. He’s got good technique, good passing and all that. But he can move as well. Ball comes to him and I’m going to let him off because it just bobbles. It wasn’t meant to be,” Richards said.

However, this little moment showed that there could be even more to come from Alexander-Arnold in the future.

His burst of speed here was really something else and the fact he hit the bar with his shot was the most surprising aspect of the entire move.

As Richards says, this showed another side to Trent’s game that we don’t always get to see. Speed is so important now in top Premier League players and the Liverpool man showed he had it in abundance last night.
