Reports have been circulating around Spurs making a move for Todibo over the past few weeks.
David Ornstein shared his view on the potential transfer over the weekend, while there’s also been suggestions that Manchester United could make their own move as well.
Tottenham, though, are believed to have made some guarantees to the defender over his game time at the club if he was to sign.
However, according to Football.London’s Alasdair Gold, Nice could hold out for a summer bidding war for Todibo due to the amount of teams who want to sign him.
“Spurs have a big interest in Nice’s Jean-Clair Todibo and have held talks with the Ligue 1 club about the 23-year-old. However, with the young French international widely acknowledged as one of the best young defensive prospects in Europe with top clubs across the continent and in the Premier League after him, Nice could hold out for a summer bidding war for the player,” Gold wrote
The problem Spurs have is that they are desperate for a new defender in January and they’ll need to carefully weigh up their options.
Todibo is obviously a massive target and it would be ideal for the club to get him in during the winter.
But, if Nice are looking to hold out for the biggest money possible, then it really puts Spurs’ plans under pressure.
It would then be down to Daniel Levy and the club to decide if paying slightly over the odds in January is worth it, or whether they can afford to hold out until the summer and risk missing out altogether.
Todibo is an obvious talent who’d fill a gap at Spurs right now. But £40-50m in January is a big outlay and it’s going to take some big decisions and negotiation from the Tottenham end to get this one done.
