Liverpool is fast approaching the January transfer window as Jürgen Klopp and his recruitment staff may begin to consider possible additions to the squad in the New Year.
The Reds enjoyed a successful summer window which saw long-term servants Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, Naby Keïta and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all depart the club as a new-look midfield made its way to Anfield.
Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister, Wataru Endō and Ryan Gravenberch have all played a role in a successful start to the 2023/24 campaign since arriving in the summer, as Liverpool now looks ahead to the next transfer window with the defense likely being the next priority, although Klopp has suggested the club might not dip into the market.
Injuries to key players such as Andy Robertson, Joël Matip and Kostas Tsimikas — as well as regular setbacks for Ibrahima Konaté and Joe Gomez — could well change the mind of the Liverpool boss though as several names continue to be linked with a move to Merseyside. Here is the Liverpool.com verdict on the transfer gossip to emerge around the Reds today.
Gonçalo Inácio (Sporting CP)
One name that continues to be linked with a move to Liverpool is Sporting Club de Portugal defender Gonçalo Inácio.
According to Correio da Manha (via Paisley Gates), both Liverpool and Arsenal are pushing forward in their efforts to sign the Portuguese defender in the January transfer window as both clubs look to bolster their squad in their efforts to secure the Premier League title this season.
The 22-year-old, who is also attracting interest from the likes of Manchester United and Real Madrid, reportedly has a release clause of around $66m (£52m/€60m) with a move now said to be ‘inevitable’ as we enter the New Year.
Piero Hincapié (Bayer Leverksuen)
According to Kicker, former Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso, who is now the manager of Bayer Leverkusen, is set to block the Reds from signing defender Piero Hincapié in January.
The 21-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Anfield following the ACL injury to Joël Matip, however Alonso will look to block a move to Merseyside as he looks to keep his key players with Leverkusen currently sat at the top of the Bundesliga.
