With the January transfer window now open, rumors abound as to what business Liverpool could get up to. Reports suggest a big deal could be in the works for a defender, while a battle with Manchester United could be on the cards for Joshua Kimmich. Here’s your round-up of the latest Liverpool news.
According to reports in France, Liverpool is ‘ready’ to sign Lille defender Leny Yoro. The 18-year-old though certainly won’t come cheaply.
According to Paisley Gates, the latest reports on the continent suggest the Reds would have to part with $99m (£78m/€90m). Liverpool though is still claimed to be eager to secure the services of one of Ligue 1’s most-wanted players.
French outlet Le10Sport has suggested Liverpool is ‘ready to sign a nice check’ in order to bring Yoro to Anfield, and in the process beat some of its biggest rivals to the signing. Manchester City and Manchester United have also reportedly made contact with Lille.
PSG is also said to be in the race, although not as advanced as Liverpool. The report claims Lille is holding talks with all the parties, although its priority remains to keep Yoro this month.
Liverpool and Man Utd in Kimmich battle
Reports in Spain suggest Liverpool could be about to battle with Manchester United to sign Joshua Kimmich. The German international has been linked with a move away from Bayern Munich, with a January transfer potentially on the cards.
With Wataru Endō heading off to the Asian Cup, Liverpool’s options in defensive midfield will be more limited over the next few weeks. That has led to suggestions another option for the engine room could be sought, despite defense looking more of a priority now.
According to Spanish outlet AS, both Liverpool and United are interested in securing a deal for Kimmich, who is claimed to be considering leaving Bayern ahead of a potential summer sale. Not only would he be able to provide another option in midfield, but he is also capable of playing at right-back, offering an alternative should the Reds want to play Trent Alexander-Arnold in the middle.
At 28 though, Kimmich is older than the usual profile of player the Reds would usually target. By the time the summer rolls around, other options could also some into play, if Liverpool does in fact want to sign another midfield option.
