Liverpool produced a statement victory as they secured their place in the last 32 of the FA Cup with a victory at Arsenal.
An own goal from Jakub Kiwior and a Luis Diaz strike made the difference late on as the Reds earned a 2-0 triumph for their first victory in the competition at the Gunners in almost 60 years.
Liverpool now turn their attentions to the League Cup and their semi-final first leg at home to Fulham on Wednesday. And here we look ahead to the changes Jurgen Klopp could make when his team are next in action.
While Klopp rotated heavily during the opening rounds of the League Cup, he went stronger for the quarter-final win over West Ham United before Christmas. And the lengthy list of unavailable players suggests there may not be much wriggle room for the Liverpool boss to do otherwise against Fulham.
One change will see League Cup specialist Caoimhin Kelleher replace Alisson Becker in goal. The centre-back situation will be determined by whether Virgil van Dijk overcomes the illness that forced him to miss out against Arsenal. Jarell Quansah will be on standby to again deputise alongside Ibrahima Konate, although Joe Gomez could be an option with Joel Matip out for the season. Nat Phillips is also back training after returning from a loan at Celtic.
That, though, will be influenced by Gomez continuing at left-back, given Owen Beck – recalled from his loan at Scottish Premiership side Dundee – is now available having served a historic one-match suspension. Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas are injured, while young Luke Chambers was on the bench at the Emirates.
And at right-back, while Trent Alexander-Arnold is the first choice, a bright cameo from Conor Bradley at the weekend indicated he is pressing for a start should Alexander-Arnold be required in midfield.
Alexis Mac Allister returned as the number six at Arsenal and, with Wataru Endo away on international duty, is the sole dedicated defensive midfielder. Both Curtis Jones and Alexander-Arnold dropped into the position at times against Arsenal and are other alternatives, while teenager James McConnell is in reserve.
Jones has started the last few games on the left of the midfield ahead of Ryan Gravenberch, while at the weekend Cody Gakpo dropped out of the attack to slot in on the right only for Harvey Elliott to shift from right wing to his more accustomed engine room role.
Teenager Bobby Clark came off the bench at the Emirates while 16-year-old Trey Nyoni was among the substitutes. Dominik Szoboszlai, Thiago Alcantara and Stefan Bajcetic are all sidelined.
Klopp demonstrated during the 90 minutes at Arsenal there are several ways to adjust to life without Mohamed Salah, with some more successful than others.
All four senior forwards – Gakpo, Diaz, Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota – can operate on the left wing, with all bar Diaz having also started on the right. The Colombian was impressive when moved to the right in the second half on Sunday, although Jota has also played in the position in the past. Elliott is another alternative, along with youngster Kaide Gordon.
