Liverpool midfielder Fabio Carvalho has admitted it was an easy decision to join Hull City on loan for the remainder of the current season.
The 21-year-old had been sent to RB Leipzig for the entirety of 2023/24, only for the loan to be cut short this month by the Reds due to a lack of playing time. Carvalho made only three starts for the German club in all competitions and quickly became surplus to requirements.
This prompted Liverpool to arrange a another temporary switch for the youngster, resulting in interest from a number of clubs. It was decided the Fulham academy graduate would head to Hull, where he has been reunited with fellow Reds loanee Tyler Morton.
Carvalho didn’t have to wait long for his first Hull appearance, playing the full 90 minutes of the Tigers’ 2-1 home loss to Norwich City on Friday evening.
Speaking ahead of this Championship clash, the midfielder explained why he opted for Hull ahead of other clubs that were in the running for his signature. “It was a no-brainer, really. I like the way the team plays,” he told Sky Sports.
“The club has got ambitions and so do I. Hopefully we can combine those and have a successful second part of the season. I’m just excited to get out there and play with freedom, which is what the manager wants me to do. I’m excited to be here and can’t wait to get started.”
The capture of Carvalho has been viewed as a major coup for the second tier side and Hull manager Liam Rosenior could not hide his excitement over the deal when quizzed on what he is expecting from the club’s latest recruit. “We’re delighted he has decided to come here, for the right reasons. He wants to play and add to what we already have. Fabio coming in at anytime is the right time, he is a top player and I’m delighted he decided to come here.
“Even in the games where I watched him in Leipzig, the ability he has to take the ball, his bravery, his speed, his ability to press – he is an outstanding young player and fits into the way we play.”
