Levi Colwill has been a key player for Chelsea this season, but it looks like Liverpool are prepared to at least ask their Premier League rivals the question.
According to HITC Football, the Reds are ready to test the Blues’ resolve over the 20-year-old.
Mauricio Pochettino is likely to view Colwill as untouchable. He has started Colwill 18 times in the Premier League this term, using the English youngster at both left-back and centre-back, and described him as a “fantastic talent” last summer when talking to Chelsea’s official website.
Chelsea are not afraid to do business with their rivals, selling Mason Mount and Kai Havertz to Manchester United and Arsenal respectively in the previous transfer window. Mateo Kovacic also left the club for Manchester City.
Colwill’s situation is a lot different to Mount, Havertz and Kovacic’s before they left Stamford Bridge.
The England international recently signed a long-term contract at Chelsea. While Liverpool may be interested in Colwill, the Blues will not find themselves in a position where they are forced to sell him.
All in all, then, it would be a surprise if this one happened. Again, Colwill has quickly become a key player at Stamford Bridge, with Pochettino even handing him the captain’s armband on a couple of occasions.
If Liverpool want to sign a new centre-half, then they are going to have to look elsewhere.
One of Colwill’s teammates looks like he could be leaving Chelsea soon, though. Conor Gallagher’s contract expires next year and he is attracting a lot of interest from Tottenham Hotspur.
If the midfielder does not sign a new deal soon, then the Blues are going to have to make a big decision. That is one player who you cannot rule out leaving.
