After the Liverpool star’s AFCON scare, the Egypt manager provides an update on Mohamed Salah’s injuries.

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah was substituted before half-time against Ghana as Egypt drew 2-2 at AFCON. Jürgen Klopp will be hoping he isn't out for long.

Liverpool and Egypt superstar Mohamed Salah was forced off with what appeared to be a hamstring injury while playing for his nation at AFCON against Ghana. The 31-year-old attacker limped off just before half-time.

Egypt was drawing 0-0 at the time but the game finished 2-2, with West Ham United forward Mohammed Kudus scoring a brace for Ghana. The tie leaves Egypt on two points from two matches so far and Ghana on one. Cape Verde is currently on three points and Mozambique on one. They have each played only one fixture and play each other on Friday.

Salah has an excellent injury history and has rarely been absent for Liverpool. But he has played a lot of football over the past few seasons and the calendar is not showing any signs of slowing down.

“We don’t know yet what the problem is,” Egypt boss Rui Vitória said at full-time (via The Athletic’s Simon Hughes on X/Twitter). “I hope it’s not a big problem. It was difficult timing for us because in the second half, we could only make two substitutions. I think it’s not dangerous but let’s see.”

Egypt next plays on Monday against Cape Verde where it could seal progression to the knockout phase of AFCON. However, it remains to be seen if Salah will be involved in that clash or any more at the tournament even if the Pharaohs get through.
