Liverpool returns to Premier League action against Bournemouth this weekend with a number of players absent. Mohamed Salah is of course the biggest name missing due to his involvement at AFCON, although he did pick up an injury in Egypt’s 2-2 draw with Ghana on Thursday.
Liverpool fans will be hoping he is not set for an extended spell on the sidelines with boss Jürgen Klopp already facing a series of injury problems. In defense, Andy Robertson and Joël Matip have been long-term absentees while Kostas Tsimikas is also sidelined after breaking his collarbone.
Trent Alexander-Arnold will again miss the trip to Bournemouth and with Dominik Szoboszlai and Thiago Alcântara still out, Klopp is somewhat short of options. But speaking in Friday’s press conference, the Liverpool boss did admit there were several returns on the horizon.
After Alexander-Arnold was spotted at Milan Fashion Week, Klopp joked: “Obviously Trent can walk, but the catwalk! They’re all going in the right direction — Trent is close, Dom is close, Robbo is close.
But for the Bournemouth game at the weekend, I don’t expect anybody back. After Bournemouth I think, especially after Fulham, we will see. But they are all close.”
Liverpool takes on Fulham in the second-leg of its Carabao Cup semi-final before hosting Norwich in the FA Cup. That encounter at Anfield could give the returning players a chance to get some much-needed minutes as Klopp decides on his best XI for a key run of matches.
