Liverpool and Chelsea could go head-to-head in the summer for one Premier League defender.
Liverpool, who will watch manager Jurgen Klopp leave the club at the end of the season, have put Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi at the top of their transfer wish list, according to the Daily Mirror.
Earlier this month, football.london claimed that Guehi was also an option for Chelsea and that the Blues have never stopped following his progress since he left them for Palace back in 2021.
As per TEAMtalk, the Eagles value the centre-back at £60m.
Chelsea take on Guehi’s Palace side in February and it could prove to be a must-win game for Roy Hodgson, according to journalist Ed Aarons.
Guehi has quickly become a top Premier League defender. It is no surprise that the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea are now looking at him.
This season, the 23-year-old has made 84 clearances in the English top flight, putting him in the top 10 players for that area.
He is also now a full England international, showing how much the centre-half has progressed since leaving Stamford Bridge.
Guehi has progressed to the point where it now looks like Chelsea are open to the idea of re-signing him, though that will not be straightforward with Liverpool also sniffing around.
However, with Klopp leaving in the summer, it will be interesting to see if that changes Liverpool’s transfer plans and impacts their interest in Guehi.
As for Chelsea, you suspect that they will definitely be signing a new centre-back. Thiago Silva’s contract expires at the end of the campaign and you would imagine that they are going to want to replace a player of that calibre. Based on the above, there is a possibility of Guehi coming in to succeed him.
