Chelsea legend Didier Drogba celebrated with Victor Osimhen after Nigeria beat Cameroon in the Africa Cup of Nations last-16 on Saturday evening.
Osimhen delivered an impressive display in Nigeria’s attack while two goals from Ademola Lookman sealed a 2-0 victory over Cameroon.
Nigeria will now play Angola in the AFCON quarter-final on February 2.
Osimhen has been the subject of intense speculation over his club future after Napoli owner Aurelio de Laurentiis announced earlier this week that the 25-year-old will leave the Serie A champions at the end of the season.
On Saturday, reports claimed that Osimhen has already decided to join Chelsea this summer, with Mauricio Pochettino’s side desperate to reinforce with a new central striker.
And later that evening, Osimhen met up with one of Chelsea’s legendary strikers at AFCON as he was congratulated by Drogba after Nigeria’s win over Cameroon.
The pair spoke also together on Ivorian network NCI where Osimhen said: ‘It’s an honour to play on the land of Didier Drogba, my idol.’
Speaking earlier this week, Osimhen confirmed that he has already made a decision regarding his future at the end of the season.
‘The rumour is going around about me linked with the Premier League,’ Osimhen told CBS Sports.
‘Of course, when you’re one of the hottest strikers in the world you expect this type of thing, the EPL it’s one of the biggest and best leagues in the world.
‘For me, I’m with Napoli, signed a new contract and enjoying my time there with the team, at the end of the season I’ve already made up my mind, I already know what I want to do in my career.
‘Since I’ve started, I’ve been the one making my own decisions on everything and it’s working out well for me, even though when I started it didn’t go so well.
‘I already have my plan, I already know the next step I want to take, so for now I just want to finish the season strong.’
