Liverpool played out an entertaining FA Cup encounter with Norwich City today in the first game since Jurgen Klopp announced he was leaving.
After an emotional start to the game saw The Kop serenade Klopp, the game itself sprung into life immediately with three goals inside the opening half an hour.
It was Liverpool who got the lead as well, as Curtis Jones headed into the bottom corner to continue his excellent run of form.
However, while Jones was the one to get the goal and his name up in lights, it was the piece of play by youngster James McConnell that caught the eye of Sky Sports pundit, Clinton Morrison.
Commenting on the goal and build up play, Morrison was left impressed by the passing and vision of young midfielder McConnell.
“It was brilliant and it’s good to see. It was Curtis Jones with the header. But it’s good play from the youngster McConnell. He picks up the ball in midfield and plays a great ball to the back post and you’ve got to say Curtis Jones been outstanding the last few months but it’s brilliant from McConnell, great assist for Jones,” Morrison said.
James McConnell impressive for Liverpool
There seems to be a flood of youngsters coming through the ranks right now at Liverpool and James McConnell showed today he can be a player for the Reds in the future.
McConnell showed nice touches through and a composure that midfielders need to succeed at the top level.
With Klopp leaving in the summer, one of the legacies he’ll leave behind is the young players and it looks like McConnell is going to be another future star.
With others like Jarrell Quansah and Conor Bradley also emerging, it looks like Liverpool will be set fair for some time after Klopp is gone.
