One former Chelsea player is starting to prove that the grass is not always greener on the other side.
Andreas Christensen left Chelsea for Barcelona on a free transfer back in 2022 but does not look to be having the best time there at the moment.
According to The Athletic, the central defender has become “disgruntled” over being dropped when everyone in defence is fit.
Christensen has been named on the bench a few times this season, but he has still been able to make 15 starts in La Liga.
Nevertheless, it still seems like the 27-year-old is not completely satisfied with life at the Spotify Camp Nou right now.
That seems very unlikely. While Christensen may perhaps not be a nailed on starter every week at Barcelona, he is still getting a lot of game time there.
As for Chelsea, they are pretty comfortable in the centre-back position, though the potential departure of Thiago Silva could force them to strengthen in that area.
The Brazilian recently hinted that his time at Stamford Bridge is coming to an end.
Nevertheless, while Christensen certainly has the quality to play for Chelsea, proving that during his spell in west London after helping the club to win the Champions League, this story looks over.
Never say never, especially with Chelsea, but we do not see the Denmark international returning.
If anyone is to replace Silva, then it looks like it will be Sporting Lisbon’s Ousmane Diomande. The Blues have reportedly made the Ivorian their top defensive target for the summer.
Ultimately, the central defensive position at Chelsea is probably something to keep an eye on, but it seems very unlikely that the club will be re-signing Christensen, who is not at a point at Barcelona yet where he needs to force an exit.
