Nice striker Terem Moffi has given Chelsea a possible transfer boost. The Blues have been linked with several strikers throughout the January window as Mauricio Pochettino looks to strengthen his squad.
Chelsea are short of striking options, with Nicolas Jackson scoring eight goals in all competitions and Armando Broja being the only other recognised number nine in the squad, despite the club’s many attack-minded players. The various reports surrounding Broja’s future at Stamford Bridge strengthen the idea that the Blues could look to sign a forward this month.
Brentford’s Ivan Toney and former Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema have been among the names listed as targets. However, Chelsea have received a hint that Nice’s Terem Moffi could be another option to consider.
Moffi is representing Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations, having replaced the injured Victor Boniface in the Super Eagles squad. The 24-year-old has eight goal contributions in 17 league games this term, following on from his tally of 21 goals last season, and the striker has admitted that he was a Chelsea supporter growing up.
When asked about players that inspired him, Moffi said: “In Europe, I was a Chelsea fan so Didier Drogba. I loved Robin van Persie too ironically. There were a lot of strikers who were of top, top quality, I watched them.”
The Nice forward also credited Nigerian legends Jay-Jay Okocha, Nwankwo Kanu and Obafemi Martins for influencing his career. However, Moffi is currently focused on forging his legacy and helping to lead his country to AFCON glory He is behind Victor Osimhen in the team’s pecking order but will hope to soon make an impact during the tournament’s knockout stages.
