Chelsea are the unfortunate side to have to take on Liverpool in the first Premier League game at Anfield after Jurgen Klopp’s recent departure announcement.
The home crowd are going to be up for every game from now, starting with the visit of Mauricio Pochettino’s side on Wednesday.
The Blues are still suffering heavily from an injured ensemble, however have welcomed Christopher Nkunku back to training in the last few days.
Here’s The Chelsea Chronicle’s predicted XI for the trip to Liverpool this week.
GK and Defence
Another fine showing from goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic against Aston Villa in the FA Cup will see him full of confidence for the trip to Anfield.
Malo Gusto was reportedly close to a return on Friday night, and will make his first start after injury on Wednesday night.
Improvements in recent weeks from Axel Disasi will see him start, back in his natural central defence role.
He will be partnered by the ever-impressive Thiago Silva in what is looking more and more like his final season at Stamford Bridge.
After being rested in the week, Ben Chilwell will continue his return to full fitness with a start on the left.
Midfield
Moises Caicedo was wanted by Liverpool in the summer, and on Wednesday will play his first game against them since that move to Chelsea.
He will again be joined in the middle of the park by Enzo Fernandez, who sits on five goals for the season in all competitions.
Ahead of them, Conor Gallagher will continue to be an important cog in Pochettino’s system.
Attack
Raheem Sterling has notoriously struggled against his former club, however will get a chance to address this tomorrow.
On the other side, Noni Madueke will look to maintain his strong Premier league form on the right of the attack.
Down the middle, Cole Palmer will operate in the false nine role, as speculation around Armando Broja’s future continues to spread. Christopher Nkunku will start on the bench.
