James Maddison had another fine day for Tottenham today and Joe Cole has said his impact has gone beyond what anyone ever expected.
Maddison laid on yet another assist as he helped Spurs to a 2-2 draw and his return to fitness has been timely for Ange Postecoglou.
Tottenham only paid £40m for Maddison and while there was excitement at the time of his signing, few would have predicted he’d be so good.
Indeed, that was a point Joe Cole made on TNT Sports today. Speaking about Maddison, the former Chelsea midfielder admitted that Tottenham fans probably never realised just how important the England man was going to become.
“He’s a joy to watch. When he signed I don’t’ think even Tottenham fans realised how important he would be to their style of play. He just picks up these positions behind Gueye and then like we saw for the second goal he’s got lovely feet and body movement. He’s not quick, he just shifts the ball with his feet and it’s so good,” Cole said.
Maddison is so impressive
There are some fine midfield players in the Premier League at the moment and a lot of competition in the England squad as well in those positions.
However, James Maddison seems to have gone to another level this term. He’s even now someone who you’d suggest gets in the England XI, such has been his rise.
For Tottenham, it’s obviously a massive bonus seeing Maddison doing the business and as Cole says here, few would have thought he’d be this good.
Yet another assist today with a moment of magic and yet more quality moments in the game, Maddison is showing week by week how good he is.
If Tottenham are to make the top four, then Maddison will have been a huge part of it.
