Journalist Simon Phillips has now claimed that Chelsea are prepared to listen to offers for another player when this season comes to an end.
In fact, he told his Substack that no player is off the table, and this included current club captain Reece James.
James has hardly featured this season due to injuries, and is not likely to be back in action until the latter weeks of the campaign
Last year, when there was transfer reports linking the 24-year-old with an exit, it was claimed that he was seen as untouchable by the club.
However, Phillips has now claimed there could well be a different stance if a club come with a significant bid in an upcoming transfer window.
He said: “First and foremost, Chelsea need to sell players before the end of June. I am told that pretty much every player they would listen to offers to right now, even Reece James, with major concerns over his injuries.
They will focus on selling the ‘pure profit’ players first and foremost, but there aren’t many who they wouldn’t listen to offers for (I mean big offers by the way, not desperate to sell etc).”
There must be a hope right now that the recent surgery undergone by the defender will be enough to at least halt the rampant record of injuries he has suffered in his first team career.
His importance to the side is clear to see when he is fit, and the fact he was named captain of the side shows just how much faith there is in a fit version of James.
In his place, Malo Gusto is now under pressure to stay fit and perform at a top level in order to plug the gap as best as possible
