2 Celtics players will be named to US team for Paris Olympics, reports say
BOSTON —
Two Boston Celtics players will reportedly be part of the United States men’s basketball team heading to Paris this summer for the 2024 Olympics.
Celtics forward Jayson Tatum and guard Jrue Holiday will be on Team USA’s 12-man roster for the Paris Games, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and Shams Jrue HolidaY of The Athletic.
Tatum, 26, and Holiday, 33, were both part of the U.S. men’s national team that captured the gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, which were held in the summer of 2021 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to the reports, other players who will be named to the U.S. Olympic men’s basketball team include Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James, Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry, Phoenix Suns forward Kevin Durant, Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid, Lakers forward Anthony Davis, Suns guard Devin Booker, Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards, Miami Heat center Bam Adebayo and Indiana Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton.
Wojnarowski reported that U.S. men’s national team managing director Grant Hill is keeping one roster spot open ahead of a July training camp and exhibition games in Las Vegas.
Warriors head coach Steve Kerr will serve as the head coach for the 2024 U.S. Olympic team and his assistants include Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra, Los Angeles Clippers head coach Tyronn Lue and Gonzaga University head men’s basketball coach Mark Few.
The U.S. men’s national team will be seeking its fifth straight Olympic basketball gold medal when the Paris tournament starts in late July.
