The Green Bay Packers don’t have a pressing need for a wide receiver, but when you have a chance to trade for a rising star in exchange for a draft asset, it’s hard not to think about it.
Cincinnati Bengals wideout Tee Higgins has requested a trade from the team, and it could be the perfect opportunity for the Packers to pounce and acquire him.
With that said, the Packers could come in and take the Bengals’ headache away from them in a move that should make them even more competitive offensively.
Higgins is only 25 years old and very much fits the Packers’ timeline with Jordan Love as their franchise quarterback. While Green Bay has Christian Watson, who has done more than enough to show that he can be a star in the league, adding Higgins will give them a true no. 1 option who could further elevate them.
In four seasons, Higgins has career totals of 257 receptions for 3684 yards and 24 touchdowns.
Besides, you can never have too much weapon in the NFL when roster turnover is prevalent and often hinders teams. The more weapons you have, the better.
Furthermore, it won’t really take a lot for the Packers to trade for Higgins. A trade proposal from FanSided has Green Bay acquiring the wideout from Cincinnati for a second-round pick.
“Needless to say, acquiring Higgins is affordable for the Packers both in terms of the draft compensation that might be required to get him as well as the salary cap allocation,” Sayre Bedinger of FanSided explained.
“The Packers would finally have a true featured option in the passing game, a proven weapon on the outside who would make everyone else in the offense better. Jordan Love would have a true WR1 that he could grow with for the foreseeable future. This type of deal is a no-brainer for the Packers in their current window, which is wide open. If Love had looked horrendous last season, this wouldn’t make sense, but you’ve got to adjust strategy based on the way he pla
