Stefon Diggs faded down the stretch for the Buffalo Bills last season and there had been rampant speculation before the blockbuster trade that sent the electrifying playmaker to the Houston Texans that the star receiver wanted out.
However, Texans general manager Nick Caserio summarily dismissed the notion that he’s worried about any character concerns when it comes to Diggs.
There is a feeling inside the NFL, that Diggs was no longer working out for the Bills, and that perhaps his most productive days in their situation had come and gone.
“The extension didn’t work out [for the Bills],” former NFL Executive of The Year Randy Mueller recently told me. “And sometimes they don’t but moving on is the way to move forward. Kudos to them for having the guts to do it. The timing is good with their options in the upcoming draft.”
But, Caserio doesn’t believe in that narrative, nor is he concerned with anything that happened before Diggs arrived in Houston.
“I think it’s unfair to label anybody until they actually have an opportunity to walk in the building,” Caserio said, via Adam Wexler of SportsRadio790. “Our environment is different than another environment, so we really don’t know what’s going on in 31 other buildings.”
It sure sounds as though the Texans are far more concerned with how Diggs performs on the field in 2024, than with any potential blow-ups from Diggs off the field.
Last season, Diggs caught 107 passes for 1,183 yards with eight touchdowns, and the Texans are hoping he’ll be even more productive on the receiving end of passes from wunderkind quarterback C.J. Stroud.
After barnstorming to the AFC Divisional Playoffs last season, the Texans are betting big that Diggs will make a significant impact on quarterback C.J. Stroud’s development and legitimate Super Bowl aspirations in 2024.
