Only a few weeks ago, the Baltimore Orioles sent their top prospect, Jackson Holliday, back down to the minor leagues. Similar to what his father Matt Holliday went through decades before, Holliday had difficulty in his early MLB career. That obviously worked out well for Matt, and Jackson appears to be far too skilled to struggle in the major leagues.
Holliday’s first assignment could not have gone any worse, as he managed just a.059 average with a.111 on-base percentage while striking out 18 times in 36 plate appearances. Holliday was a youthful call-up to begin with, having only turned 20 years old.
Holliday has played at a mediocre pace since joining the Norfolk minor minors again, hitting.242 with four doubles. Holliday could, nevertheless, also be passed over in the Orioles infield. Jordan Westberg is a versatile player who can play second base or third base, where Holliday excels. Since third baseman Coby Mayo is also very close to being called up, Holliday won’t be needed right away. Scott White of CBS Fantasy Baseball questioned Holliday’s near future:
