There’s “nothing like having” a quarterback entering his third year in the system, according to Texas Longhorns coach Steve Sarkisian, who made this statement prior to the spring game last month. In the mix-and-match transfer portal era, this is even more true. Because Quinn Ewers gives Texas an advantage over other teams, Sarkisian has been able to observe the quarterback’s development closely over the course of three years. As the Longhorns prepare for the SEC, fortunately for Texas, Sark believes that Ewers has made the “biggest” progress a quarterback can make.
Sarkisian stated in an exclusive interview with the Austin American-Statesman that after two years at Texas, the Southlake Carroll graduate has improved most on Ewers’ pocket presence. “For a quarterback, that’s – to me – the biggest thing for any guy,” Sarkisian stated. “It seems like the ability to have faith in the direction and timing of your drop, to maintain your eyes up in the pocket and make those small motions there. “He’s done a very good job of maintaining his vision. There’s always space for development.
With a 12-1 record and a Big 12 title, Ewers was responsible for 272 of 394 passing yards for 3,479 yards, 22 touchdowns, six interceptions, and five rushing scores for the Longhorns last season. Ewers was also sidelined for two games by an injury.
