Retired Italy international who previously played for AC Milan and Juventus in Serie A has spoken on the possibility of Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen leaving Napoli and the Partenopei’s search for a successor for the Super Eagles player.
Osimhen has been an integral member of Napoli’s team for the last three seasons. With 26 goals in the 2022–2023 campaign, he helped the team win their first Serie A championship in thirty-three years. With 15 goals in 23 Serie A outings and two goals in the UEFA Champions League this season, Osimhen has managed to excel despite multiple injury setbacks and spending a month with Nigeria at the 2-23 Africa Cup of Nations.
Thanks to his outstanding achievements, Osimhen has drawn interest from elite clubs in Europe, such as Paris Saint-Germain, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool. Napoli may have a difficult time finding a replacement for their striker, who is expected to leave the team.
Galderisi, a former Italy international, notes that replacing Osimhen will be difficult but emphasises his special qualities to the team in contrast to one of the players Napoli has lined up to take Osimhen’s place: “[Gianluca] Scamacca is doing extraordinary things this year but he is different from Osimhen.” He only needs to be served for a goal to be scored. For him [Scamacca], the European championships will be crucial in determining how big of an influence he can have in particular contests.
Galderisi, 61, acknowledged that Scamacca’s qualities were admirable, but he also hinted that substituting the Italian striker for Osimhen could be problematic. He said this to Radio Goal, live on Kiss Kiss Napoli: “Replacing Victor Osimhen with Scamacca is a big risk.” Osimhen? He moves effortlessly. He always moves in the proper way, and once he gets going again, he is unstoppable.”If it had been his second goal in Udine, I would have given him a reward for his gesture. If I had told him the objective. Since there isn’t another Osimhen in Europe, we must ascertain Napoli’s intentions.
“Osimhen’s replacement will also have a significant impact. Finding a striker as good as him will be challenging, but the Azzurri will undoubtedly need one.
Osimhen seems to be destiny.
