Victor Wanyama has stated that Ange Postecoglou’s first season at Tottenham Hotspur was pretty successful, and he believes his former side will be a much more formidable force in the coming season.
The way the season finished has left some Spurs fans disappointed, with the team struggling to win during the past several months and ultimately failing to qualify for the Champions League.
However, given the situation of the club when Ange Postecoglou took over last summer, as well as the loss of Harry Kane, it is possible to argue that the Australian has had a good start at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Wanyama, who has been closely following his former Canadian team, stated that they struggled to find a rhythm during the mid-season injury crisis.
The CF Montreal midfielder told Responsible Gambling: “Wow, they started the season absolutely on fire, and overall I think they had a fantastic campaign. Obviously, they had injuries, which meant that they didn’t have the same momentum when they received players.
The Kenyan emphasized that there is still a lot of optimism surrounding the project at Hotspur Way, and he believes the Lilywhites will progress next season provided they make some good acquisitions this summer.
He added: “Obviously, as you’ll know, some of the people I’ve played with are there, such as Sonny (Heung-min Son), and he talks so many wonderful things about the manager and the group, so I have a feeling that next season will be even better.
“They just have to build on the gains of this season and then go on to add a few players and they will be fine.”
The difficult end to the season has not fully diminished the optimism surrounding the Postecoglou project, but it has served as a reality check for everyone at the club and the fans.
It is therefore critical that we start next season well, as poor results at the start of the next campaign will raise serious doubts in the players’ minds about our existing system and strategy.
