William Byrd’s Hairston signs with Virginia Tech football as a preferred walk-on.
Early Wednesday morning, a William Byrd athlete committed to continuing his sports career at a school he has always wanted to attend.
Terrier quarterback Israel Hairston signed a letter of intent as a preferred walk-on to play football at Virginia Tech.
The four-sport high school athlete has a GPA of more than 4.0 and was named Class 3 VHSL Scholar Athlete of the Year.
After signing, he expressed how great it is to have a school like Virginia Tech show interest in his athletic and academic ability.

If anyone knows about DBU and the Lunch Pail in Blacksburg, it’s Foster, given what he built during his time there.
Last fall, as a junior at Trinity Episcopal School, he had 33 tackles, three interceptions, one touchdown, and 14 pass breakups.
