Levi Stoudt, a former top prospect who was designated for assignment earlier this week, has left the Seattle Mariners. The Baltimore Orioles grabbed Stoudt off waivers, via @MarinersPR on social media:
The Mariners selected the 26-year-old Stoudt, who attended Lehigh University in Pennsylvania, in the third round of the 2019 draft. Before the 2022 season started, he was eventually moved to the Cincinnati Reds in the deal that sent Eugenio Suarez and Jesse Winker to Seattle.
In 2023, Stoudt made his major league debut with the Reds, making four appearances (two starts) and going 0-1 with a 9.58 ERA. Only 10.1 major league innings have he worked. Despite his impressive performance in spring training and his offseason claim by the Mariners, Stoudt struggled this season at Triple-A Tacoma, going just 3-4 with a 6.92 ERA. He is 22-21 lifetime with a 5.09 ERA at all minor league levels. It’s unfortunate that the Orioles claimed him since you never know when they might realize how good a potential like Stoudt could be, but so far, there’s no sign that they will.
He is now going to the O’s to attempt and save his career. Baltimore is poor in the pitching department but has an abundance of excellent position player prospects. The Mariners will start play on Thursday at a 40-30 overall advantage. On Thursday at 6:40 p.m., they’ll play host to the Chicago White Sox. PT. Garrett Crochet will face off against pitcher Emerson Hancock.
