The Detroit Lions will lose one of their organized team activity practices due to a violation of offseason workout guidelines. Detroit will cancel its Monday practice session.
While the team did not specify the exact infringement, the NFL and NFL Players Association’s collective bargaining agreement restricts on-field contact during offseason sessions.
The Lions released a statement acknowledging the rule infraction and forfeiting an OTA session as a result.
That leaves various options for what happened during the Lions’ practice in question. Was the play between offensive and defensive linemen, or between receivers and defensive backs? Several reporters covering the club reported that OTA sessions during the week of May 27 were closed to the media.
The Monday session was forfeited as part of a three-day OTA period for rookies and younger players. Veterans will not take part after completing Detroit’s mandated minicamp this past week. The team will next convene for training camp in late July.
