Most NBA analysts have the Denver Nuggets as the favorites to come out of the Western Conference this season. That being said, the team could make some improvements this season but found themselves not making any major trade deadline moves.
Former Warriors GM Bob Myers believes that decision may have been a concerning mistake for the reigning champions.
Myers spoke on NBA Today, where he revealed his big concern with the Denver Nuggets’ decision to not make a trade at the deadline. For Myers, he’s still worried about the lack of a Bruce Brown or Jeff Green replacement.
“I think they’re the favorite,” Myers said. “I wish they had added a Royce O’Neale. I think Phoenix’s Royce O’Neale movement was big. We haven’t talked about that. If I was Denver, I would have done a lot to get a Finney-Smith, a Royce O’Neale. I think they’re that player away from winning a championship again, repeating. Not having a Bruce Brown, or Jeff Green from last year, Denver relying on a pretty young bench, I’m kind of surprised. Unless they’ve got some notion of a buyout player coming in and maybe that’s the plan, I’m surprised they didn’t short the bench a little bit. I would say right now, Denver is the favorite to win the championship.”
While Myers isn’t wrong in his statement at all, the Nuggets seem to be doing just fine without Jeff Green or Bruce Brown. The team is still half a game away from being the first seed in the Western Conference and is still the favorite to come out of the West. Still, getting that reliable veteran help is never a bad thing to have.
