Hynes coached the New Jersey Devils from 2015 to the early part of the 2019-20 season, when he was sacked in December following a poor start to the season. Just over a month later, he was hired head coach of the Nashville Predators when Peter Laviolette was sacked in the middle of the 2019-20 season.
