There have been so many tears over this Dundee game that Ibrox risks becoming as wet as Dens Park.
It’s impossible to deny that it’s a mess, and serious questions regarding the condition of that surface must be addressed. But spare me the chatter; this is only awful for the Rangers. It may actually get worse for Celtic. I know they have the potential to move four points ahead at the top of the table today, and there’s no guarantee Rangers will win this one next midweek. However, if it takes place on Wednesday and the results go Dundee’s way over the weekend, the burden may be lifted entirely.
They could already be assured of a top six spot, and instead of struggling to get in, they may believe the hard work is done. There has also been talk of moving it to a neutral location or behind closed doors, but this falls back on the old sports integrity stance, doesn’t it?
The whole concept of playing at home is that there should be some sort of advantage. Look, the Rangers hitting five up there earlier this season implies it’s not much of an edge, but it’s supposed to be a fair playing field – even if it’s a mud heap.
