Bob Newhart, the iconic comedian who died on Thursday at the age of 94, was an avid sports lover.

Although he moved to Los Angeles in 1961 and lived there until his death, Newhart was a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan. He was from Oak Park, Illinois, which is around ten miles from Wrigley Field. In a 2016 interview with the Chicago Tribune, he discussed how his bond with his favourite baseball team influenced his approach to comedy.
“In my standup, I always said that I’m a Cub fan and it kind of prepared you for life,” Newhart told the crowd. “You’re ahead now, but you’re going to mess it up somehow.
