There was much speculation about what the Chicago Cubs might do at third base this season.
Matt Chapman, a perennial Gold Glover, was on the market for the Cubs to sign if they really wanted to improve that position. With their organisational concept of elite infield defence, the veteran appeared like a reasonable choice.
Finally, they chose not to pursue him, instead giving Christopher Morel another chance alongside platoon options Patrick Wisdom and Miles Mastrobuoni.
That strategy has not worked for Chicago.
