Report: Roma Ups Its Offer for Matías Soulé
No, they haven’t closed the deal yet, but Roma are inching closer to landing the talented young Juve winger.
With the Federico Chiesa transfer saga quietly fading into the background over the past two weeks, Roma remains squarely focused on Chiesa’s young teammate, Matías Soulé. The 21-year-old Argentinian winger may not be in new Juve manager Thiago Motta’s plans, but that doesn’t mean he’s lacking suitors on the open market.
Now that Euro 2024 and the Copa America have wrapped up, clubs across Europe are racing to put the finishing touches on their squads ahead of the new season. For Roma and Leicester City, that means landing Soulé, who Juve value at a reported €30 to €35 million, a hefty price for the Europa League-bound Giallorossi, who have steadily increased their bids in an effort to break the Old Lady’s will.
To wit: both the Corriere dello Sport and SportItalia’s Alfredo Pedulla report that Roma Director of Sport Florent Ghisolfi has upped the ante for Soulé. While Ghisolfi hasn’t slapped down a firm €30 million cash-on-the-barrel offer, Pedulla suggests that Roma has offered a €28 million base payment with additional bonuses that would bring the final figure closer to that elusive thirty-million mark.
As we discussed yesterday, despite Leicester’s superior financial might, Soulé’s desire to link up with his countrymen Paulo Dybala and Leandro Paredes has reportedly tipped the scales in Roma’s favor, with the Corriere suggesting he already has a five-year deal in place with Daniele De Rossi’s club.
Given Ghisolfi’s willingness to climb to €28 million, he likely won’t let two million scupper the deal, particularly not when Soulé seems so well-suited for Roma’s current project.
As always, stay tuned!
