The Indiana Fever’s rookie Caitlin Clark continues to be as good as advertised on WNBA courts and etch her name in history books. In a 101-93 loss to the Dallas Wings, Clark dished 19 assists, the most ever by a single player in a WNBA game.
Clark broke the record previously held by Courtney Vandersloot, who had 18 assists for Chicago Sky in a 100-77 win over Fever on August 31, 2020.
“I just try to set my teammates up for success,” said Clark after the game. “I think at times I can almost overpass … especially with AB [Aliyah Boston], I’m just looking to set her up so much. My eyes are just always on our post players.”
Aside from her 19 assists, Clark also scored 24 points and added six rebounds. Overall, she either scored or assisted on 66 points, which is the most by a player in a single WNBA game. Diana Taurasi set the previous record of 65 points in 2006.
But Clark’s historic night didn’t end there. The first overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft became the first rookie in WNBA history to reach 400 points and 200 assists in a single season and only the ninth player overall.
Clark is currently averaging 17.1 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 8.2 assists per game while being named an All-Star.
