ROMA SET FOR LEGAL BATTLE IN RICCARDO CALAFIORI’S ARSENAL MOVE

Serie A giants Roma seem set to be involved in a legal battle as part of Riccardo Calafiori’s move from Bologna to Arsenal this summer.

The move seems set to go through, but La Gazzetta dello Sport state that Roma are not happy with the financial aspects of the move and they are particularly not happy with Basel. The issue has now become a legal dispute between Roma and Basel.

Calafiori seems set to move to Arsenal from Bologna for €45 million and €50 percent of the fee will go to Basel, who have a sell-on clause in the contract of the Azzurri star. But Roma believe that they should also earn €8 million from the move because of the clause they had in the deal, when Basel signed the player.

In 2022, Calafiori has joined the Swiss side for €2.5 million and Roma had a resale percentage of 40 percent. Basel sold the player to Bologna for 4 million a year later and out of this €1.5 million went to the Giallorossi. But Roma believe that it isn’t over yet, as Basel are earning 50 percent of what Bologna will earn and what they initially earned from when Calafiori joined the Rossoblu.

But Roma state that Basel didn’t inform them about the deal and they believe that their 40 percent sell-on percentage also refers to what Basel will earn from Calafiori’s Arsenal move. They feel that even they should earn €8 million from the move on top of what they received in 2023.

The lawyers of both clubs are assessing how to take forward the situation.
