As a result of his announcement that he plans to play for Argentina in the forthcoming Olympic Games, Enzo Fernandez may miss Chelsea’s first preseason under their new manager.
After surgery, the midfield player missed Chelsea’s last six games due to an ongoing ailment that hindered his season. “I needed to get this surgery since I been dragging the pain for about six months,” he said, disclosing that he had been playing through difficulty.
“I could stay away from it as long as I continued to inject and medicate myself. However, a few weeks ago, the agony began to worsen as I practiced and played incessantly, and I didn’t want to quit playing the games I had because of the increasing intensity of the pain at no point was this having any effect.”
Prior to the Copa America this summer, Fernandez remained a member of Lionel Scaloni’s Argentina team. Argentina is scheduled to start preparations in Miami on June 3. Before the start of Copa America on June 20, they will play friendlies against Ecuador and Guatemala.
The next day, the World Cup winners will play Canada. In the event that Argentina advances, the championship match is scheduled on July 15, which is little over ten days before the start of the Olympic Games.
The dates of the Olympics in Paris are July 26–August 11. Depending on how far Argentina advances in the competition, Fernandez would have to miss the start of the preseason in the United States.
The midfield player added, “I’m feeling well from the injury and training normally,” in an interview with ESPN Argentina. Prior to the injury, I spoke with [Lionel] Scaloni, and I’m thrilled to have been called up again.”I can’t wait to attend the Olympic Games. I want to go, I told [Javier] Mascherano when we spoke. Let me check with Chelsea to see if I may leave.
However, it’s thought that clubs are not required to release players for the competition.
Before the season begins on the weekend of August 17 and 18, Chelsea will play five games in America against Wrexham, Celtic, Club America, Manchester City, and Real Madrid between July 24 and August 6.
