Ever since she entered the league as the first overall pick of the 2024 WNBA draft, Indiana Fever rookie Caitlin Clark has made a massive impact on and off the court.
It took her a few weeks in the 2024 season to get going, but Clark has picked up right where she left off with the Iowa Hawkeyes. She has even brought so much more attention to the WNBA than ever before.
WNBA legend Seimone Augustus, who played for the Minnesota Lynx, would agree, and in an interview on SiriusXM NBA Radio, she shared her thoughts on Clark’s performance so far in her rookie season.
“When we think about Caitlin Clark, we already saw that in college. We just didn’t know what it would look like on a pro level. And, you know, the first two or three weeks, she played two of the top three teams from, you know, the previous year,” Augustus said.
Clark and the Fever started off their season 0-5, playing the Connecticut Sun and New York Liberty twice and the Seattle Storm once.
Augustus continued, “So it was kind of like gotta get her footing, and now that we see she’s gotten her footing, I mean, she’s at the top of the league in assists, you know, got her team going, like it looks amazing.”
Clark not only leads the league in assists, but she also set the new WNBA records for the most assists in a regular-season game (19) and the most assists in the All-Star game by a rookie (10). Clark also became the only rookie in league history to record a triple-double.
Augustus played with the Minnesota Lynx from 2006 to 2019, leading them to four WNBA championships. After her retirement, she joined the Los Angeles Sparks as an assistant coach from 2021 to 2022. She now serves as an assistant coach for the LSU Tigers.
