Even though Chelsea has already added six new players, at least two more are expected to join the team in the near future.
The team’s 4-1 loss to Celtic on Saturday won’t have done much to change new manager Enzo Maresca’s mind about adding more options to his roster.
After having to fight back from behind to draw with League One team Wrexham in midweek, Maresca, who signed from Leicester City in June, is still waiting for his first victory, but he isn’t too concerned about the outcome thus far.
“The biggest difference between us and them was the physical condition,” he said, “It is very clear they are ready to start [their league season] and we have just had our second [pre-season] game and some of our players have only played 45 minutes so the difference was huge.”
Goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen is likely to be the first new face, as he is currently on his way to the US to complete his move to Chelsea after a fee was agreed with Villarreal for the 22-year-old over the weekend.
Defender Aaron Anselmino is another player scheduled to arrive at Stamford Bridge. He is scheduled to go to London for a physical before making a £17 million transfer, however he is probably going to be loaned back to Boca Juniors for the upcoming campaign.
Romelu Lukaku may be included in talks between Napoli and the Blues regarding striker Victor Osimhen, according to reports in the Guardian. The Serie A team is eager to complete a transfer for the Belgium striker.
After spending the previous two Serie A seasons on loan at Inter Milan and Roma, respectively, Lukaku is reportedly eager to reunite with his old boss Antonio Conte, who took over at Roma last month.
A player connected to the Blues is Juventus star Federico Chiesa, who is also rumored to be under consideration by Arsenal and Tottenham. In the interim, the 31-year-old is anticipated to return to Cobham to practice with the Chelsea players who are not on the preseason tour to the US.
According to reports, the representative of the Italian international traveled to London to negotiate with Chelsea and Tottenham about a potential transfer. The winger made 37 appearances in the previous campaign, netting 10 goals and providing three assists.
