Caitlin Clark of the Indiana Fever expresses her enthusiasm and support for squad USA at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, despite not being chosen for the US women’s basketball squad.
“I watched USA Women yesterday. That was fun. I watched USA men. I try to watch as much as I can,” Clark said.
“Obviously, the perfect time is during practice with the time change in Paris, so maybe Christie [Sides] should cancel practice so I can watch more of the Olympics.”
Team USA women’s basketball is set to face Belgium on August 1 in their second matchup of the Paris Games, following a victory over Japan on July 29 with a score of 102-76.
“I think the break’s definitely been good,” the 22-year-old basketball prodigy said in response to the question of whether she felt “bummed” about not being on the team. Well, it’s cool, all right. It is comparable to a once-in-a-lifetime chance that will only present itself to you in four years. Thus, I wouldn’t say that I’m upset.
She continued, “I think it gives you something to work for and something to dream of.”
“And [in] four years, you can be there, and four years comes fast,” she said. It reminds me of the time you spent in college. And I was only a freshman in college, it seems like. It so demonstrates to you that if you want that to be your dream in four years, you must begin working today.
“I believe that’s all I have to say, which is to work hard and hopefully you can make it,” Clark said.
On April 15, Clark—who with the Iowa Hawkeyes became the all-time top scorer in NCAA Women’s Basketball—was chosen first overall in the 2024 WNBA Draft.
