Kalen DeBoer will maximize CJ Dippre’s talent for Alabama football, but is another tight end ready to emerge?
In an interesting observation at Saturday’s practice, Josh Cuevas was second in drills for the Crimson Tide.
The transfer from the University of Washington is a redshirt junior that played for a Pac-12 Championship team and a program that advanced to the College Football Playoff National Championship Game.
Cuevas, who stands at 6’4″ and 239 pounds, caught four passes for 164 yards and a touchdown in 2023. Danny Lewis Jr., a redshirt sophomore, is freakishly athletic, but he was behind Dippre, Cuevas, and Ty Lockwood (redshirt freshman) as the fourth tight end. DeBoer has had success producing marquee numbers from players at the position throughout his coaching tenure.
Cuevas is athletic and finds ways to get open on the field. We will see how he continues to develop in camp.
It is good to see him behind Dippre as someone who can get on the field and make plays.
