Having struggled with his shot in the 2024 Paris Olympics, Golden State Warriors and Team USA star Steph Curry broke out of his slump to begin Thursday’s semifinals game against Serbia. Finishing with 17 points and five made threes in the first quarter, Curry scored all but six of Team USA’s points in the opening frame.
Curry’s fourth three of the first quarter was one of his signature look away threes, where the NBA’s all-time leader in three-point makes turns away from the ball before it goes through the basket.
Looking at his own bench, Curry did not watch this three go through:
Team USA’s bench and the fans in attendance went wild over this three from Curry, and continued to do so as the Warriors star added another three before the first quarter ended.
A reaction to Curry’s first quarter eruption that has been going viral is the one both Kevin Durant and Anthony Edwards had on the bench:
Sharing an incredible photo of those two Team USA stars celebrating with Curry, the official Warriors account on X accumulated over 1,500 likes in just the first 20 minutes of this being posted.
Entering this game, Curry had made just five of his 20 attempts from three point range. Curry matched that three-point total in just the first quarter of this game, making five of his seven attempts from beyond the arc.
Curry’s eruption kept Team USA in this game, as Serbia came out on fire from the field in the first half.
