Sanders, who hails from Kilgore, Texas, chose the Wolverines over Oklahoma State and Baylor. TCU, where his father played defensive back, was also once a threat for the athletic corner, but faded from consideration down the stretch.
Morgan and special teams coordinator/secondary coach JB Brown, who is also a Texas native, offered Sanders on June 6. The relationship between Morgan and Sanders quickly developed, as Sanders took trips to Ann Arbor in mid-June and on the final weekend of July for the BBQ at the Big House. Sanders told The Michigan Insider’s Sam Webb that, “the more I talk to (Morgan), I feel like the more he’s opening up to me, as well as I’m opening up to him. So, I feel like we have somewhat of the same personality.”
Sanders, whose ranking soared after showcasing his skills on the camp circuit this spring and summer, is the No. 318 overall prospect according to 247Sports Composite, and the 30th-ranked cornerback in his class.
Sanders reports he’s currently 6-foot-1, but still growing and runs in the low 4.4s in the 40-yard dash. His length and athleticism is apparent in his junior highlights as he stars at corner, wide receiver and kick returner for Kilgore High School.
When he arrives in Ann Arbor, Sanders will join a talented group of secondary recruits in four-star safety Ivan Taylor and four-star safety/nickel Kainoa Winston.
