Chelsea may finally be able to land a marquee striker transfer following a Newcastle decision. The Blues have contacted numerous forwards, including Jhon Duran and Jonathan David, with Alexander Isak another that emerged as an option.
The Magpies talisman was fresh off an impressive season with 25 goals to his name, which certainly explained why his asking price was in the region of £200million. Arsenal were also linked to the Sweden international but any deal being done appeared close to impossible given the finances involved.
However, concerns around profit and sustainability rules for Newcastle saw a chaotic dash to sell players take place. Liverpool were offered the chance to sign Anthony Gordon for £75million with Joe Gomez heading in the opposite direction, however Brighton signing Yankuba Minteh for £30million took them to safety.
Amid that chaos, Chelsea made enquiries over the possibility of signing Isak but they were also met by a firm Newcastle stance and a significant asking price. With Newcastle solving their financial concerns, interest from west London cooled with focus turning onto Samu Omorodion.
Despite initially being told it would take £70million to sign the 20-year-old, the Blues reached an agreement with Atletico Madrid to sign him for half that price. Conor Gallagher has subsequently joined the Spanish club in a deal worth £33.7million with that open line of communication allowing Chelsea to begin negotiations for Omorodion.
With that proving to be successful, Chelsea could repeat that transfer trick with Newcastle showing an interest in Noni Madueke, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.
the transfer expert admitted that the 22-year-old is not out of the club’s project, but that a good proposal could see the situation become open.
If something comes of interest from Newcastle, Chelsea could at least attempt to agree a deal for Isak with Madueke heading to St James’ Park. It would be a sensational coup if completed by Chelsea especially with it still appearing as though the club want another striker addition alongside Omorodion.
Talks over a loan deal for Napoli’s Victor Osimhen have also been going on in the background with there still hope something can be agreed as Romelu Lukaku is still wanted by Napoli. The Nigeria international was again left out of Napoli’s squad with confirmation then arriving the plan is for him to be elsewhere for the 2024/25 season.
