Another crisis has broken out in the Chelsea dressing room, with Ben Chilwell reported to be so furious with manager Enzo Maresca that he is demanding to leave the club.
According to TeamTalk, Maresca’s recent comments in which he suggested that Chilwell was not of the quality required to play at left-back has infuriated the England star.
As a result, Chilwell is now looking to quit the club as he does not want to play for a manager who does not value him.
According to the Daily Mail, Man Utd are considering making a bid for Chilwell in an attempt to solve their own left back crisis after Luke Shaw suffered another injury. Man City have also been linked.
What did Maresca say?
“Chilly is left-back, for sure,” said Maresca. “The Chilly situation is a bit delicate.
“We are trying to find a solution for him in terms of a position. He probably needs a bit of time. By delicate I mean in terms of finding his best position, not in terms of [his future at the club].
“We want players that can perform at 100 percent in their positions. I am sure, for instance, Malo [Gusto] and Reece [James] can both do the work required of them in the next two-three days and they can both finish with more assists, or be more dangerous, than they were in the past.
“In that position, they are good enough to make ‘last passes’ or get some assists because their quality is very good.”
This is the latest dressing room crisis at Chelsea in recent weeks.
Chelsea were rocked by the racism scandal in which Enzo and a group of Argentina teammates were filmed celebrating their Copa America victory in which they chanted a derogatory song about the France national team.
Many of Enzo’s Chelsea teammates were furious with the Argentine for his behaviour, with Wesley Fofana publicly slamming the Argentine and a number of the Blues’ French and African players unfollowing Enzo on social media.
After a public and private apologies, Enzo was eventually publicly forgiven for his behaviour but doubts persist on just how harmonious Chelsea’s dressing room.
The Chilwell-Maresca controversy will not have helped in that regard.
