Milan and Monaco agree deal

Reports in France claim that Milan and Monaco have finally reached an agreement for the transfer of midfielder Youssouf Fofana, many weeks after the Rossoneri first expressed their interest.

According to RMC Sport, Milan have agreed to pay Monaco a fee of €23m plus €2m in bonuses, slightly adjusted from their recent offer of €20m plus €5m worth of add-ons.

The France international is expected to put pen to paper on a four year contract in San Siro, running until the summer of 2028.

RMC add that Fofana could even arrive in Italy before the Serie A season kicks off this weekend.

Milan have long been seeking a deal with the Ligue 1 side for Fofana, but faced difficulty when a number of European clubs came forward for his signature.

Fofana is into the final year of his contract with Monaco, so they have been keen to move him on this summer, rather than risk losing him on a free next year.

Manchester United have caused the Rossoneri the biggest headache, but there were also approaches from Atletico Madrid and West Ham at other stages of the window.

Milan have been confident that they would be able to get a deal done close to the €20m mark, but Monaco upped the asking price to around €35m when a potential bidding war became apparent.

That turned out not to be the case, and several weeks later, the clubs look to have met somewhere in the middle.
