Ferrari is facing scrutiny as the 2024 Formula 1 season progresses, with their performance faltering after a promising start.
Currently sitting third in the constructors’ standings, the team trails behind Red Bull by 24 points, raising concerns about internal dynamics and team morale.
Team Principal Fred Vasseur has addressed rumors of tension within the team, particularly regarding lead driver Charles Leclerc.
He emphasized that recent struggles stem from the car’s handling and heightened expectations from Leclerc, rather than any discord between management and the driver.
“After Monaco we had a tough sequence. What’s clear is the car has been a bit more difficult to drive the last couple of events, and the level of expectation of Charles is also a bit higher,” Vasseur shared.
Despite facing scrutiny, the mantra within Ferrari’s camp remains unified and they want collective progression.
“It’s the life of a team, that you have ups and downs,” Vasseur elaborated. “We have permanent discussions with Charles. He knows the situation on our side, what we do well and what we did wrong, and he knows sometimes he did some mistakes.”
Despite the challenges, Ferrari remains focused on teamwork and improvement. Vasseur highlighted the importance of ongoing communication with Leclerc, noting their long-standing relationship from their time at Sauber.
This connection is seen as a vital asset during this period of adjustment.
